Apple is constantly improving the iPhone in order to create a better user experience. The new iPhone 3GS has stunning capabilities, but some consumers still want more from their Smartphone. Now, in order to get around some of Apple’s strict requirements for their applications, many people have started to jailbreak their iPhones and iPod touches.
Jailbreaking is the process of installing software in order to eliminate Apple’s restrictions by opening the iPhone to use various third part applications. Once you have successfully broken open the phone, you can then modify its file system and run unofficial code. A jailbroken phone is customizable and can also run applications not approved for sale by Apple on the App Store. It is risk free to jailbreak your phone and will not void your warranty like some people tend to think. Also, if you ever want to undo the change, simply restore your phone through iTunes to its previous state.
Some advantages to a jailbroken phone include:
• Customizable phone icons, background and color scheme
• No useless app disconnections to simply check a text message or email
• Apps can keep running even when you press the home key
• Access to apps that Apple did not approve
• Better GPS systems and tracking
• Possibility to unlock your phone and use a different network
