Last year, the inventor of the T9 predictive typing system unveiled a new method designed to simplify and greatly speed up the process of inputting text on touch screen mobile devices. It’s called Swype, and according to a recent article published in TechCrunch, “the way you type with Swype is you literally swipe your finger from one letter to the next as fast as you can.”
The first device to use Swype technology will be Verizon’s new Samsung Omnia II smartphone which is slated for release on December 2nd.
An article on Huffington Post claims “Swype could completely change the way we type on touchscreen smartphones — and potentially pose a real challenge to the iPhone.” One reader commenting on the article doesn’t appear to share the same enthusiasm and claims the “hullabaloo is silly.” Other comments show a mixed reaction and describe the Swype technology as “clunky” yet “interesting. Another writes “I can see SO much pain with swype. Cool tech though.”
Here’s a video demo of the technology in action.
