Dan Butcher of Mobile Commerce Daily, the news leader in mobile commerce and retail, published an article yesterday highlighting the recently-released SkyMall iPhone app.
The features and functionality listed in Butcher’s article send a clear signal that mobile retail apps are finally evolving and actualizing their promised potential.
SkyMall seemed the perfect vehicle for a sophisticated app. Known for their catalog of unique products, and customer base teeming with affluent, well-educated travelers, SkyMall couldn’t afford to release anything lacking zip. Butcher writes, “For example, the application had to effectively showcase the 10,000-plus items available in the catalog, and had to stand out by offering features and functionality not available in other mobile shopping applications.”
The app does a nice job living up to those expectations. For example, all actions from viewing the SkyMall Twitter feed to making a secure purchase using one of several payment options are conducted within the app. The complete catalog and all product descriptions are available 24/7, with or without network connectivity. And unlike most retail apps, the SkyMall catalog supports multiple categories and subcategories, allows users to search by name or keyword, and to sort search results by name, popularity, or price.
Cleveland-based iNomadics, Inc. developed the SkyMall app, and is the proud supporter of the Mobile Presence site. A YouTube video put out by iNomadics shows off the app and highlights the many features.
