There have been a number of official announcements as well as juicy rumors lately surrounding promising new mobile devices. In a recent InformationWeek article spokesman Matt Parretta confirmed that computer giant Dell is in “mobile product development for China Mobile.”
China Mobile is the largest mobile phone operator in the world with over 493 million subscribers.
Tapping the growing Chinese market is a major goal for a lot of device manufacturers and service providers. China Mobile’s rival, China Unicom, is in talks with Apple Inc. about selling the iPhone in China and China’s Lenovo, the world’s fourth largest maker of personal computers, is reportedly developing the oPhone, an iPhone lookalike.
Let’s shift gears and head over to the territory of murky speculation. The fabled device that has piqued my curiosity is the Apple Tablet. The more I read about it, the more simultaneously excited and confused I become. The device has been described as an iPod Touch on steroids, and depending on which rumor you want to believe, you can play with one next month, or maybe November, or possibly in 2010. What’s Apple’s official word? That would be mum.
