Changewave Study Shows Increase in Android OS Demand

By: Angela Soric

Changewave Research has conducted a survey which showcases Android’s increasing demand among consumers.

More than 4,000 surveyed were asked about their Smartphone purchasing plans over the next three months.

About 42 percent said they already own a Smartphone, a major increase from 15 percent just 3 years ago.

Among the 12.8 % planning to purchase a new Smartphone in the near future, 21% said they would prefer to have a phone with the Android OS, an increase from 6% three months ago.

“Three months ago Android OS was tied for last place in consumer preference among the major mobile operating systems. But since then it has surged into second place ahead of all competitors except the iPhone OS X (28%) – which remains the number one choice.”- ChangeWave’s Paul Carton

Even though there is an increased interest in Android devices, the iPhone OS was still the first choice at 28%. Last year, ChangeWave reported that users with future Smartphone plans indicated a 26-percentage point drop in interest in the iPhone following its original summer release. However, the most recent survey shows that future interest in Apple remained high even through the holiday quarter.
