Apple has reportedly filed a patent application which would allow iPhone users to transfer files and typed messages to others while on a voice call. This feature is meant to increase convenience and avoid the hassle of having to disconnect a call and lookup the contact information before being able to send a message or file.
According to the newly published patent application, this potential solution would offer a user interface that would provide users voice and message capability access while on a call. The system would automatically detect caller details and relay the information in the appropriate direction. The document even describes a scenario with a conference call and multiple listeners, where files could be sent to any or all included on the call. The invention is credited to Peter Henry Mahowald.
File types that may be supported include music, documents, URL’s, contact information or any type of file that can be stored on a mobile device.
The patent document also states that data could possibly be sent over a variety of network options including GSM, GPRS, Edge, Wi-Fi, WiMax and Bluetooth. There is also an explanation of how the receiving party’s hardware might respond to the file, such as asking the user if they would like a contact to be automatically added to their address book.
