Android on the Radar

There have been a number of recent announcements related to the Google Android operating system lately. Here are 3 articles that will get you up to speed.

Google Releases Android 1.6
There are a number of noteworthy improvements and additions to the latest version of the Android OS. Improvements to the Android Market make it easier for developers to highlight paid apps. The search framework was retooled making it possible for users to search across browser bookmarks, history, contacts, and the Web directly from the home screen. Android 1.6 includes a multi-lingual text-to-speech engine called Pico. The camera and camcorder have also received a boost.

Android Chosen for Internet Tablet
The Archos 5 Internet Tablet has opted to use Android as its device’s operating system. Accroding to Archos CEO Henri Crohas “Archos has succeeded to integrate GPS and high-definition media into the Android platform and offers unlimited ways to customise the tablet with thousands of applications on the Android platform.”

Motorola Plans to Release Several Android Phones
A recent Business Week article highlights Motorola’s plan to release at least 10 cell phones based on Android operating system in the next six to 10 months. The phones will run between $39 and $399.
